Bobcat Athletics Holds Senior Awards Banquet

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Awards Banquet Thursday night, honoring the efforts of GC’s senior student-athletes.

Bobcat athletics uses this year-end celebration to hand out the department’s top honors, including the John Kurtz Award for top senior contributor to the baseball program as well as the Senior Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

Catcher Benton Yaun (Marietta, Ga.) was named the 19th John Kurtz Award winner. Yaun is in his fifth year with the Bobcats, including a redshirt second season. The three-time Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Scholar-Athlete is enjoying his best season in his final one, hitting .327 over 37 games, with 13 RBI and 18 runs. Yaun is hitting an even .400 in the second half.

The Senior Female Athlete of the Year went to soccer’s Tawny Moffat (Peachtree City, Ga.). A 2009 All-PBC defender, Moffat was a four-year starter for Bobcat soccer. She picked up two PBC Scholar-Athlete honors, and was a leader on some of the most dominant defensive lines in the history of the program. Moffat makes it back-to-back soccer winners for the award, as last year’s honor was won by goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett.

The Senior Male Athlete of the Year was won by tennis’ Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France). Leborgne has already earned an undergrad degree in mathematics, and is finishing his Master’s in business administration. A two-time All-PBC Second Team selection in singles, he added first team honors in doubles this season as well. Leborgne has twice been selected to the PBC Tennis All-Academic Team, and is the No. 27 singles player and a member of the No. 7 doubles team in the nation. Leborgne is the seventh men’s tennis player all-time to take the honor, the most recent being Erick Siqueira in 2009.
