AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College department of athletics added nine more student-athletes to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Presidential Honor Roll, bumping the total honorees for Bobcat Nation to 89.
For the fifth season, the PBC divided the group into four levels by GPA, as all students between 3.00 and 3.24 are Presidential Scholars, 3.25 to 3.49 are Bronze Scholars, 3.50 to 3.74 are Silver Scholars and 3.75 to 4.00 are Gold Scholars.
UNC Pembroke took top honors with 118 and Flagler was second with 112. Rounding out the top five were Augusta State University (106), USC Aiken (104) and the University of Montevallo (100).
The changes don’t effect that Bobcat women’s soccer had the most with 17 student-athletes on the list. Baseball was second with 11, but now moves to third at 12, with softball taking second at 13 honorees. The men’s cross country team had the top spot in per-roster ratio at 80 percent (8/10), but now the women’s tennis squad owns the top ratio as all eight student-athletes made the list. The men’s harriers are now second, while women’s basketball is now third at 75 percent. Eight of the 10 varsity sports had at least half of the student-athletes on their roster put together over a 3.0 GPA. Georgia College had 11 Gold Scholars, 14 Silver Scholars, 34 Bronze Scholars and 30 Presidential Scholars.
GC Baseball’s Heine Rivera (Fayetteville, Ga.) helped the Bobcats add another Gold Scholar, while the remaining eight came under Presidential Scholar status.
Cross country placed three more student-athletes on the list, as Emily Cary (Snellville, Ga.), Helen Harris (Sandersville, Ga.) and Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) were all honored. Lones was also a member of Bobcat basketball during the 2011-12 campaign.
Tennis’ Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) were both honored.
A trio of softball players took spots on the list as well in Kali Carswell (Acworth, Ga.), Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.) and Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.).
