CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Georgia College cross country program and head coach Joe Samprone are set to run at its biggest event of the season, Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by Queens University.
The GC men have been led by Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) and Dan Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) all season long, and will look to improve upon an ninth place finish among the 25 teams in 2010. GC sends five senior men to the event, including the two-time All-PBC honorees in Mattix and Horseman.
The Bobcat women are paced by sophomore Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) and senior Victoria Dobson (New Hamburg, Ontario). Lones earned her second career All-PBC honor in as many seasons two weeks ago, and has led GC in 12 straight races. Dobson has been a stalwart for GC for four seasons, and looks to provide the times needed to improve upon last year’s ninth place finish among the 28 teams in the race.
The women’s 6K begins at 10 a.m., with the men’s 10K immediately following. Visit the Queens University web site at http://www.queensathletics.com/sports/2011/10/13/gen_1013114515.aspx?path=mcross for more details.
