SUMTER, S.C. - The team of senior Joao Casagrande (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) of the men's tennis team at Georgia College & State University were the only remaining Bobcats competing in non-consolation action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional today (Sept. 20).
The pair duked it out against fellow Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponents Rafael Array and Mikk Irdoja of Armstrong Atlantic State University. Casagrande and Leborgne fell 8-5 to the Pirate twosome in the semifinal match-up after winning two matches on Saturday (Sept. 19).
In a consolation round match-up Giovane Nucci (Santa Catarina, Brazil) fell to teammate, Leborgne, 6-3, 7-5. Leborgne went on to defeat Daniel Regan 7-5, 6-4. In the finals of Flight ‘A' Consolation, Leborgne beat Hannes Ganss 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
Mara Carolina Rojas (Colonia Caroya, Argentina) was the sole Bobcat women's tennis player still competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional. Today, in a quarterfinal match-up, Rojas was beaten by Marie Cercelletti of Clayton State University 7-5, 6-0.
The men's tennis team wraps up their fall season with the completion of the ITA Southeast Regional after already hosting their annual Fall Championship last week.
The women's team will host their Fall Championship next weekend (Sept. 25-27) to end their fall campaign.
