Beliankou, Pickham Listed Among ITA Region Award Winners
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Georgia College & State University tennis teams have seen their seasons come to a close, but Bobcat tennis is still bringing in the hardware, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Graduate assistant coach Justin Pickham was recently chosen as the Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, while senior Max Beliankou (Minsk, Belarus) earned Southeast Region Senior Player of the Year.
Pickham is in his first season on the sidelines after playing for one All-America worthy campaign for the Bobcats in 2008-09. He assists with all training efforts, providing insight to help improve the overall game for both teams. One half of the finalist doubles team pairing in the 2008 ITA Division II National Tournament, Pickham has also worked closely on doubles strategy.
Beliankou was 18-3 as a singles competitor for Georgia College in 2010, primarily in the third slot. He also picked up wins in his last eight matches, as well as 15 of his last 16. Beliankou added a 14-9 record in doubles this year, including an 11-6 mark with classmate Giovane Nucci (Santa Catarina, Brazil).
The Bobcat men went 16-7 in 2010, finishing third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) at 6-3. They advanced to the finals of the NCAA Southeast Region-2, making the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history. The women finished the season 12-12 with a 6-6 PBC record, good for seventh in one of the toughest conferences around. The Bobcat women advanced to the NCAA Regional-2 Semifinal match, making their 16th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
