NEW ORLEANS - The US Track andField and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recentlyannounced its Cross Country All-Academic Team list, with bothGeorgia College & State University squads making the tome.
Teams needed to have a 3.0 or better grade point average, andalso compete at the NCAA Regional Tournament level to qualify. Onthe women's side 99 teams made the list, while 58 were honored inthe men's half.
Adams State College was named the USTFCCCA Scholar Team of theYear on both the men's and women's sides.
The Bobcat women's team had a 3.410 grade point average, tiedwith ASC, the Division II National Champions. The GCSU women tiedfor the 29th best GPA in Division II, had thesecond-best GPA among Southeast Region teams and were tops in thePeach Belt Conference (PBC).
The Bobcat men's team had a 3.210 grade point average, good for25th in the nation. The GCSU men had the second-bestaverage among Southeast Regional teams, and also took top honors inthe PBC.
Both teams had one of their most successful campaigns on thecourse in 2008, taking their highest finishes in the NCAA SoutheastRegional Championship the women getting fifth and the men ninth.The women also picked up the 10th team title in programhistory, winning the Division II race at the PepperdineInvitational.
