MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior starter Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) of the No. 8 Georgia College & State University baseball team (35-14, 19-5 PBC) was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for his efforts during the week ending May 2. This is the second such honor for Dewald and the sixth for the Bobcat baseball team this season.
Needing a win to take the series at Armstrong Atlantic State University Saturday, Dewald responded with a gem of a shutout, fanning 13 while scattering four hits and a walk. It was his fifth complete game and second shutout of the year. Just two runners reached third base in the game, as Dewald set down the final 11 hitters in a row, including seven via strikeout.
Up next, the 2010 PBC Champions play in the opening round of the PBC Tournament against No. 25 USC Aiken Saturday, May 8 at 6 p.m.
