MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior righthander Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) of the No. 4 Georgia College & State University baseball team (41-16) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-America Second Team, the association announced recently.
This marks Dewald’s top All-America honor this season, after being named on the Daktronics Third Team.
The team’s ace, Dewald is 11-3 this season with a 3.53 ERA and 117 strikeouts over 112 1/3 innings. His strikeouts rank fourth in a single-season effort in Georgia College history, just five behind Matt Goyen in 2005. Kevin Mobley is the record holder at 129 during the 1997 season. Dewald is also one victory away from the single-season mark in that category.
This honor gives Georgia College 13 ABCA All-Americans in school history. Dewald is the fourth pitcher for the Bobcats, the most recent honoree being Michael Antonini in 2006.
Dewald was one of four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) student-athletes named to the ABCA All-America teams.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, May 27 at 3 p.m. facing No. 9 University of Southern Indiana at the Division II College World Series.
