MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Rightfielder Shawn Ward (Martinez, Ga.) of the No. 8 Georgia College & State University baseball team (33-12, 17-4 PBC) took both the GCSU Athlete of the Week and Peach Belt Conference’s (PBC) Player of the Week awards today (April 26). This marks the first time that Ward has won both honors and the fourth-time a Bobcat has received the conference award.
Ward hit an eye-popping .647 with five home runs, 10 runs scored and 13 RBI in four games last week. The junior had a 1.588 sluggging percentage and .684 on-base percentage, collecting multiple hits in all four games. He hit two home runs, drove in four and scored three against No. 14 Valdosta State University.
Ward the hit three more home runs in three games at North Greenville University, including two in the opener along with a double as her drove in five. He stole two bases in two attempts and stuck out only twice in 17 at-bats. The junior outfielder is tied for second in the PBC in home runs, is second alone in RBI and is also in the top-10 in batting average (.374), slugging (.711) and doubles (16).
Georgia College returns to John Kurtz Field to face No. 20 Erskine College Wednesday, April 28 at 6 p.m.
