Baseball Slated at #1 in Preseason PBC Poll

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) team to beat in the preseason PBC poll as released on Friday.
Georgia College is the preseason favorite for the second time in school history, their first coming in 2007 when they won the PBC Championship. GC was also the 2010 PBC Champions and is ranked No. 4 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Preseason top-25.
The Bobcats went 42-17 last season and advanced to the semifinals of the Division II Collegiate World Series, losing to National Champion Southern Indiana. The Bobcats return All-Conference starting pitcher Eric Pettepher (Gordon, Ga.), along with preseason All-American selections Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) and Shawn Ward (Martinez, Ga.).
In a close vote, the Bobcats received six of a possible 11 first-place votes and finished with 112 total points, edging out No. 11 Columbus State University who received four first-place votes and 109 points. No. 15 Francis Marion University comes in at the third spot with 102 points, respectively.
The Bobcats open up in a doubleheader at No. 5 the University of Tampa, Feb. 4 starting at 3 p.m.
