Two Bobcats Named to Preseason All-PBC Team
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 4 Georgia College baseball catcher Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) and outfielder Shawn Ward (Martinez, Ga.) were selected to the Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) team as announced by the conference today.
Pirkle hit .354 and led the team with 17 home runs, knocking in 65 RBI and scoring 59 runs last season. Pirkle led the team with a slugging percentage of .735 while striking out only 33 times in 189 at-bats. He was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team, the NCBWA All-Region Second Team and Daktronics All-Region Second Team. Pirkle was also named to the All-PBC First Team in 2010.
Ward led the team and the PBC with 87 RBI and scored 55 runs. He hit .409 with runners in scoring position and .358 overall recording 88 hits, 16 of them being home runs. Ward garnered ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team honors, was named to the NCBWA All-Region First Team and All-PBC First Team. He was also an All-American honorable mention in the NCBWA.
The Bobcats open their season on the road with a doubleheader at No. 5 University of Tampa Friday, Feb. 4 starting at 3 p.m.
