SAVANNAH, Ga. – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper recently released its Preseason National Poll for Division II, with Georgia College baseball positioned No. 23. GC is fourth among the six Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools listed.
Francis Marion University is No. 2 in the country, behind only the University of West Florida. Columbus State University is No. 15, with UNC Pembroke in at No. 19. After the Bobcats comes No. 25 Armstrong and No. 35 North Georgia.
Among those ranked in the poll’s top-40 are two other non-conference matchups for GC, No. 6 University of Tampa and No. 27 Barry University.
The Bobcats return two All-PBC performers from last year’s 35-17 squad, as shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) and lefthanded starter Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) return. Funk was also named All-American by all three organizations that pick national teams.
The Bobcats kick off the 2012 season at home Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against King College (Tenn.).
