MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team and head coach Tom Carty recently were guests of the Braves 400 Fan Club, as Bobcat baseball was awarded a 400 Club scholarship.
The Braves 400 Fan Club is a non-profit organization of baseball fans dedicated to supporting the game of baseball at all levels. The Bobcats received the Phil Niekro Scholarship, a $1,500 award given to two colleges each year.
“Our program is very honored to receive this recognition by the Braves 400 Club,” said Carty. It is a reward for all the former and current players along with our coaching staff over the past few years that gained the notice of the 400 Club for all we do on and off the field.”
Coach Carty and assistant coach Zeke Mitchem attended a recent banquet where they received the prestigious honor from Niekro himself.
The Bobcats begin the 2012 campaign Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader, hosting King College (Tenn.).
