MARTINEZ, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) recently released its Preseason Coaches Poll, with the No. 23 Georgia College Bobcats positioned third in the 12-team league.
The Bobcats are third, behind No. 1 Francis Marion University and Columbus State University. GC picked up one first-place vote and a second-place nod.
Georgia College went 35-17 with a 15-9 PBC mark in 2011. For 2012, GC returns All-Conference shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) and left-handed starter Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.). Funk was named a 2011 All-American by three different organizations after hitting .392 while Guinane was 9-1 with a 3.84 ERA. Both men were named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Preseason All-American list.
Georgia College starts its 2012 season Saturday, Feb. 4 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against King College (Tenn.), part of “Showcase Saturday” for Georgia College Athletics. Six of Georgia College’s 10 varsity sports will be in action at home Saturday.
