MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Junior Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) of the Georgia College baseball team (9-6, 2-1 PBC) was named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 28. This marks the first such honor for LaMothe and the first for Bobcat baseball this season.
LaMothe had an amazing week, factoring into three of the team’s four decisions. The Division I transfer went eight shutout innings total, picking up two wins and a save, while scattering just three hits and striking out 10. He went three no-hit innings with five strikeouts against Newberry Wednesday in his first Bobcat win, then picked up his first Bobcat save with the final two outs of game one against USC Aiken Saturday. He then picked up the victory in the 12-inning thriller Sunday, tossing the final 4 1/3 innings scoreless, striking out four.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. hosting Lander University.
