MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The results are in from Georgia College baseball’s 2012 “Miracle League Day” and working in tandem with service sorority Gamma Sigma Sigma, head coach Tom Carty and the Bobcats raised over $500 for a great cause Sunday, March 11 at John Kurtz Field.
“This is a date our program looks forward to every year,” said Carty. “Our relationship with the Miracle League is a special one, in that whatever differences people have, they can come together around a love of the game of baseball. I’d like to thank Gamma Sigma Sigma as well as our friends at Zaxby’s for their help in making this the best Miracle League Day yet.”
The biggest little Bobcat fans Dy'Lon Rayford and Kevin Keene, Milledgeville members of the Macon Miracle League were in attendance Sunday. Rayford and Kean joined for a pair of ceremonial first pitches to kick off Sunday’s action against UNC Pembroke. The baseball program sent over $500 to the Miracle League of Macon and would like to thank all those fans that contributed with donations for this great cause.
Miracle League Day was a full day of Bobcat successes, as GC topped the Braves in a 3-2 pitchers’ duel. The Bobcats (15-10, 7-4 PBC) are back in action Saturday, March 24 at the University of Montevallo.
With the slogan of “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball” The Miracle League provides children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league. The league utilizes an ADA approved synthetic rubber turf field that allows all children with special needs an opportunity to play on a “level”-playing surface. The Miracle League allows these children an opportunity to finally play baseball for the first time in their lives.
