GC Baseball Places Sixth in PBC Preseason Poll
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll was released Tuesday, with most of the coaches in the PBC putting the Bobcats sixth in the 13-team league.
The Bobcats did not receive any first place votes, but did receive one third and one fifth place nod this year. Georgia College took home seven out of the possible 13 sixth place votes.
Francis Marion University took first place in the poll, followed by USC Aiken and Columbus State University.
In 2012, Georgia College went 29-21 overall, with a 19-10 record in the PBC. 2013 will return multiple key starters for the Bobcats, including 2013 Preseason All-PBC third baseman Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.) and 2012 All-PBC First Team member Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.).
Donaldson played mostly second base for the Bobcats in 2012 where he hit .310 with seven home runs and 34 RBI, but will make the move to third in 2013. Maas made most of his starts at designated hitter in 2012, posting a .333 average with eight home runs and 56 RBI.
The Bobcats will begin their 2013 campaign Saturday, Feb. 2 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Mars Hill at John Kurtz Field.
