#28 GC Baseball Outlasts West Georgia, 10-9

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A six-run fourth helped the No. 28 Georgia College baseball team (5-2) get past the University of West Georgia (4-7) 10-9 Tuesday afternoon at John Kurtz Field. Third Baseman Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) helped power the offense with three hits, including a home run.

The Bobcats scored the first three runs of the game, and UWG answered back with multi-run innings in the third and fourth to take a 7-3 advantage.

Georgia College then busted out a six-run inning in the fourth on just three hits and a costly Wolf error. The two big shots of the inning were a two-run double from Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) and the two-run shot from McGraw off the top of the wall in right center.

Holding a 9-7 lead, the Bobcats added what would become crucial insurance in the sixth, when a Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) single plated Hinshaw, who had singled earlier.

Senior righty Micah Thompson (Tallapoosa, Ga.) entered in the ninth to close the game with a two-run lead. The outing started shaky with loading the bases with no out, but after a sacrifice fly put the tying run on third, Thompson fielded a bunt and cut down the tying run in a rundown between third and home. Thompson then induced a groundout for his first Bobcat save.

McGraw and Hinshaw each finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored apiece. Hazel capped a 2-for-2 day with a pair of RBI and a run, while shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) had two hits in five trips, two driven in and a run scored. Leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) also had two singles in five at-bats, driving in one and scoring once.

Sophomore Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) got his first win of the season (1-0) throwing 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball, scattering four hits and a walk while recording a strikeout. UWG reliever Chris Burdette (0-1) took the loss in two innings of work. The hitting star for the Wolves was JoJo Underwood, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m., beginning Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play at home against Flagler College.
