Benson Named AstroTurf Peach Belt Freshman of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced the most recent AstroTurf PBC Baseball Players of the Week, with No. 21 Georgia College second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) taking Freshman of the Week honors.
Benson hit .353 with one home run and eight RBI in four games last week. The freshman went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs against North Greenville University. He then collected four hits in a three-game sweep at Francis Marion University, going 3-for-5 in the final game with three more RBI. Benson also had no errors in 19 chances at second base with four double plays turned.
Benson is the first Bobcat to win Freshman of the Week since Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) April 8, 2013.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. traveling to GRU Augusta.
