AUGUSTA, Ga. – A home run from Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) helped inch No. 7 Georgia College baseball (19-4, 11-2 PBC) past GRU Augusta (11-17, 3-10 PBC) 4-3 Friday night on the road.
The game started off with some fireworks, with Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) scoring on an error, and the Jaguars answered with two run-scoring singles in the bottom half for a 2-1 lead.
Another RBI single made it 3-1 Jaguars in the bottom of the second. Ardeeser singled to lead off the third, eventually scoring on a double-play ball. Second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) knotted the game up in the fifth with an RBI double down the leftfield line.
Two quick outs in the eighth made it look like the Jaguars would escape without any trouble, but Hinshaw took a pitch over the leftfield fence for a 4-3 lead and the eventual win.
Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) threw the final 2 1/3 innings to get the win, not allowing a single hit to improve to 3-0 on the season. Spencer Thomas (Loganville, Ga.) had a solid start, settling in after giving up runs in the first and second to put up four scoreless frames.
Leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) had three singles in five trips, while Benson finished 2-for-4 with the RBI. Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished the game with two hits in five at-bats as well.
