#7 Bobcat Baseball Splits, Takes Series at GRU Augusta With 20th Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 7 Georgia College baseball team (20-5, 12-3 PBC) picked up its 20th win of the season as part of a doubleheader split Saturday at GRU Augusta (12-18, 4-11 PBC). The Bobcats lost game one 7-1 before taking game two 6-2 completing another Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series victory for the Bobcats.

Game one was controlled by the Jaguars throughout, thanks in part to the great pitching of Tyler Brown (2-1), holding the Bobcats to just the one run over 7 1/3 innings.

Down 3-0 headed into the fifth, the Bobcats got a pair of doubles from Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) and Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) to score the team's lone run of the game. Jaguar leadoff hitter JD Sabo finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two stolen bases.

Game two was the exact opposite, as Georgia College got the great start from Josh Taylor (Phoenix), scattering two runs and seven hits over eight innings for the win (4-1).

After GRUA scored first in the first, the Bobcats took the game over for good in the third on RBI singles from Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) and Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.). Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) helped supply some insurance in the sixth with a solo home run to right field, Bick's second of the year.

Bick was the lone multi-hit performer for the Bobcats, going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Hinshaw drove in a pair in game two, despite not recording a hit, posting sacrifice flies in the fourth and the eighth.

The Bobcats are back in action at home Tuesday, March 25 at 3 p.m., hosting Clark Atlanta University for a doubleheader at John Kurtz Field.
