NEWBERRY, N.C. – It took 34 games for the No. 12 Georgia College baseball team (26-8) to lose back-to-back contests, doing so in an 8-2 loss at Newberry College (21-21) Tuesday night.
The Bobcats never led, as after spotting the Wolves runs in the second and third innings, a two-run double by catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) would tie the game.
Newberry got the go-ahead run in the fifth, but a big five-run seventh would eventually decide the game.
Hazel was the lone multi-hit performer for Georgia College, going 2-for-4 with the two RBI. Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) and designated hitter Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) each scored a run.
Righty reliever Dallas Draviczki (Mission Viejo, Calif.) took the loss (1-2), allowing one run over two innings with two strikeouts. Kyle Ward (Rincon, Ga.) and Micah Thompson (Tallapoosa, Ga.) each threw scoreless innings in the loss.
Austin Walker (1-1) got the win for the Wolves, throwing three scoreless innings, scattering three walks and two hits. Newberry scored eight runs on 13 hits, the top offensive effort coming from designated hitter Eric Barbieri, who finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run.
The Bobcats look to get back to their winning ways Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m., traveling to No. 3 Lander University.
