GREENWOOD, S.C. – It took an extra frame, but the No. 12 Georgia College baseball team (26-9, 13-6 PBC) lost an 11-10 barnburner at No. 3 Lander University (33-6, 19-6 PBC) in 10 innings Friday night.
Weston Lawing drove home Patrick Grady with a double to center to score the walk-off game-winner.
After the Bobcats gave up a pair of runs in the first inning, the Georgia College bats came alive, scoring runs in the second through fifth frames. When the dust settled heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Bobcats had a 10-2 lead.
Lander responded in the bottom half with six runs, then two more in the sixth to knot the game 10-10, setting up Lawing's eventual heroics.
The Bobcats had 13 hits. Designated hitter Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) led the charge with a 3-for-5 game, adding a double and home run with three RBI and two runs scored. Second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) also had a home run as part of his 2-for-4 evening, driving in three and scoring twice.
First baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) and leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) each had two hits; each man also tallying an RBI and run. Ardeeser and catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) added solo home runs, giving the Bobcats four round-trippers on the night. Third baseman Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) added to the hit barrage with two on four trips, scoring a run.
Bobcat reliever Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) falls to 3-1 with the loss, while Lander reliever Brandon White evens his record out at 2-2. Connor Lewis was the hit star for the Bearcats, going 5-for-6 with two runs and an RBI.
The series continues tomorrow, April 12 at 4 p.m.
