GREENWOOD, S.C. – Falling victim to a big five-run fourth, the No. 12 Georgia College baseball team (26-10, 13-8 PBC) lost a 10-5 game at No. 3 Lander University (34-6, 20-6 PBC) Saturday.
The Bobcats had the game tied 3-3 in the second and 4-4 in the third, but couldn't overcome five runs from Lander in the fourth inning. The Bearcats scored their runs on five hits, a hit batsman and a walk.
Georgia College had 13 hits, led by Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) and Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) at three each. Ardeeser had his second solo home run in as many days, while Hazel tallied doubles for all three hits, scoring a run.
Centerfielder Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) had two hits in four trips, driving in a run. Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) had a triple amongst his 2-for-5 day, scoring a run.
Righty starter Justin Blue (Mulberry, Fla.) fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss. Josh Pape (Locust Grove, Ga.) had 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. The win went to Lander reliever Cam Hokanson (1-1) throwing two scoreless innings. Lander had 10 runs on 10 hits, the offensive star was second baseman Graham Ramos at 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
The Bobcats finish the three-game set with the Bearcats tomorrow, April 13 at 1 p.m.
