MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 28 Georgia College baseball junior Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) was named Most Outstanding Business Management Student of the Year for Georgia College at the annual Atkinson Honors Ceremony April 17.
The awards at the Atkinson Honors Ceremony are given out based on grade point average, extra-curricular activities and class participation. As a student-athlete on the Bobcat academic honors list with a 3.0 GPA or higher, Hazel has excelled on and off the diamond in his four years at Georgia College.
On the field, he has a .389 batting average on the season, 50 RBI and leads the team with 12 home runs. In the 2013 season, he played 39 games with 34 starts as catcher, and was also named to the NCAA Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team. He has been crucial in the Bobcat's 33-14 record so far this season.
Each department within the school of business selects students that will win awards. Dr. Nick Beadles is the Interim Chair for the Department of Management, and he played a large role in selecting Hazel for the honor.
Hazel is just one example of the high-quality student athletes that are proud to be Bobcats.
