MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conferhence (PBC) announced the 2018 PBC Baseball All-Academic Team Tuesday, with a league-high seven members of No. 6 Georgia College Baseball (39-10, 26-4 PBC) making the list. The seven honorees marks the most in program history.
Seniors Logan Mattix (Loganville), Nate Schmal (Cumming) and Brendan Holler (Gilroy, California), juniors Garrett Green (Bogart) and Wesley Wommack (Monroe) and sophomores Matt Studdard (Conyers) and Harrison Veldsma (Marietta) took in the honor for the Bobcats.
Mattix owns a 3.66 in Marketing, Holler a 3.40 in Management with an Economics minor and Schmal a 3.64 in Management Information Systems. Green has a 3.40 and Wommack a 3.33, both in Management. Studdard boasts a 3.61 in Economics with a Mathematics minor and Veldsma has a 3.53 in Management.
Mattix earns the award for the third time in his career, or each season he was eligible. Green makes his second appearance on the list, and it's the first such honor for Wommack, Holler, Studdard, Schmal and Veldsma.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
Forty student-athletes made the list this season. The seven honorees for Bobcat Baseball is over twice the three honorees from 2017.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m. taking on Lander University in the pool play round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
