PEMBROKE, N.C. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) recently announced its Division II All-America team with Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek, Georgia) of No. 1 Georgia College Baseball earning consensus All-America status by taking a slot on the second team.
The first consensus Region Pitcher of the Year in program history, Hecht makes an appearance in all three All-America teams this season. He finished his final season in blue and green at 11-1 with a 3.03 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 104 innings. Hecht is just the second pitcher in school history to bring in NCBWA All-America honors, joining first-team choice Martin Dewald from 2010.
The Bobcats also added two in the group of honorable mentions to this year's NCBWA list, as both outfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) and utility Nate Schmal (Cumming, Georgia) appeared on that list.
Hecht is the sixth NCBWA All-American in school history since the program's inception in 2009. He also joins Brandon Benson to give Bobcat Baseball two NCBWA All-Americans in head coach Jason Eller's two seasons.
The season has come to a close for the Bobcats, a year in which they went 44-12 with the most Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victories by any team since 1998, and the first back-to-back PBC Tournament titles since 1998 as well. The Bobcats put eight on the All-PBC Teams and six on the All-Region squads, adding All-America honors for Mattix, Schmal and Hecht.
