#6 Golf Finishes Fifth at Pirate Invite

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 6 Georgia College & State University golf team finished fifth in the third and final round today (Feb. 24) at the AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational, hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University. The Bobcats carded a final round 302 with a 301 and 300 yesterday for 903 total, tying with No. 21 Coker College for fifth on the par-72, 6,922-yard Southbridge Golf Club course.

Junior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) was third, nine strokes off the lead (69-73-74=216). Classmate Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina/El Diamante (Calif.)) had a pair of 75s surrounding a 76 for 13th place at 226.

Sophomore Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) got a top-20 finish at 18th (77-72-80=229). Pedro C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the only Bobcat linkster to get his best round today, following up yesterday's 80 and 81 with a 73 for 234 and 32nd place. Sophomore Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) rounded out the scorers at 52nd, putting a pair of 82s around a 79 for 243.

No. 24 Valdosta State University (295-292-308=895). And No. 8 Lander University (301-296-298=895) tied for the team lead, unable to finish a playoff due to darkness. VSU's Brent Witcher led all three rounds of the tournament, carding a nine-under 207.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 2 at the Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College.
