CARTHAGE, N.C. - Just three players shy of completing two full rounds when the match was called via darkness, the No. 2 Georgia College & State University golf team stands atop the field at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship. The Bobcats are the only team at even par after two rounds at the par-72, 6,939-yard Little River Golf Club.

Georgia College had a 289 in round one, followed by a 287 round two, pacing the field at even par overall.

All five Bobcats have scored in the top-14, led by junior Pedro C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at one under. Lima stands sixth with a consistent 71 and 72, carding eight birdies over the two rounds, never once on the same hole.

Sophomore All-PBC pick Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) joins Lima in the top-10 at eighth, a one-over 73-72=145. Young recorded four birdies on the back nine in the two rounds today.

Classmate Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) completes the three Bobcats in the top-10 at 10th. Shida shaved three strokes off his first round 75 for a three-over 147. He brought himself to even par in round two with an eagle on the par-five 17th.

Junior All-PBC selection Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) and junior Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina) are tied for 14th at four-over 148. They each took different directions to get there, as Johansson added eight strokes to his first round score of 70 in round two, and Bide had the best second round of the GCSU bunch at 71.

Johansson had seven holes under par in the first round, but eight over it in round two. Bide had just one hole over par in the front nine of round two to power his solid round.

The Bobcats have won the PBC Championship just once, that victory coming in 2000. No. 15 Clayton State University stands two strokes back, and No. 1 Columbus State University is another stroke behind the Lakers. After that, the field drops off to plus-11 Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Three players will complete their second round tomorrow, with the final round beginning shortly thereafter. Bobcat fans can follow the action with live stats available at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=1494 .
