#2 Bobcats Save Best Round for Last, Qualify for NCAA Finals

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - A field-best final-round 286 helped the No. 2 Georgia College & State University golf squad take fifth at the NCAA Southeast/South SuperRegional today (May 6) qualifying the Bobcats for the NCAA Finals. The Bobcats finished at 12-over on the par-72, 7,126-yard Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals course.

Georgia College shot a 290-300-286=876, with junior Pedro C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) leading the way in sixth.

Lima fired a final-round 69, tying for the best round of the day. He finished at one-under, adding in a 75 and 71. Sophomore Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) was second on the squad, tied for 29th. He shaved two strokes off yesterday's 77 added to a 69 for 221 and five-over.

Classmate Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) and junior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) tied at nine-over for 48th. Johansson had his best round today (74-78-73) while Young did not (72-74-79), tying at 225. Rounding out the starters for GCSU was junior Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina) following up a pair of 80s on the first two days to burn the course with a 69 today. He finished at 13-over.

No. 11 University of North Alabama took over on their host course, earning the team title at four-over par. Day one leader No. 9 Lynn University was one stroke behind.

Jake Greer of UNA won individual honors at six under, beating teammate Brett Munson and Barton College's Jonathan Burke by three strokes.   

The Bobcats take to the links for the final time this season May 17-22 at the NCAA Finals hosted by Western Washington University. The Bobcats took fourth at last year's championship.
