#3 Bobcat Golf Releases Spring Schedule
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 3 Georgia College & State University golf program and head coach Jimmy Wilson have released its 2010 spring schedule, featuring five regular season tournaments.
The spring begins Feb. 15-16, taking a trip to Florida Southern College for the Matlock Invitational, where they took fourth a year ago.
The month of March starts at the Richard Rendleman Invitational March 1-2, hosted by Catawba College. With a busy month, the Bobcats play in three more tournaments in March. Southeastern Collegiate comes March 15-16, hosted by Valdosta State University. The Bobcats took the team title at this meet in 2009.
Georgia College will defend its other team title at the annual home tournament, as the Bobcat Invitational comes March 22-23 at the beautiful Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee. From March 29-30 the Bobcats head to a new tournament, the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Lander University from Maarch 28-30.
The annual Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament will be hosted by Columbus State University this year, April 12-13. Barton College plays host to the NCAA Southeast Regional May 3-5, a tournament the Bobcats won in 2008.
The ‘Cats will look to make their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Finals this year, which will be held May 18-21 at Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Georgia College finished fifth in 2009, after taking their highest finish in program history at fourth in 2008.
Georgia College had another solid fall, returning four starters from the 2008 team. The Bobcats got a win at the Kiawah Island Invitational as well as a runner-up spot at the State Farm Classic. Two All-Americans anchor the Bobcat five, as senior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) and junior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) have their eyes set on multiple titles in the spring.
The GCSU Department of Athletics, winners of the 2008-09 PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
