LAKELAND, Fla. - Able to finish just one round of the three-round tourney Monday (Feb. 16), halted due to darkness, the No. 3 Georgia College & State University golf squad stands third at the Matlock Collegiate Classic, hosted by Florida Southern College. The suspended round resumes this morning immediately followed by the final nine.
Held at the par-72, 7,065-yard Lone Palm Golf Club course, the Bobcats fired a three-over 291 in the first round of action.
Senior Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and junior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) each put up first round 71s tying for eighth overall and tops on the team. Junior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) was two strokes behind in 17th.
Just two strokes ahead of Georgia College was the University of West Florida in second, and No. 1 Barry University was an impressive 10 strokes ahead in first at a nine-under 279.
Barry's Victor Billskoog leads the individual honors at a seven-under 65, four strokes ahead of UWF's Blake Olson.
The Bobcats finish the final two rounds of action today, Tuesday, Feb. 16.
