MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) of the No. 1 Georgia College & State University men's golf team was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21. This is the first such honor for Young and the second for the Bobcat golf team this season.
Young won the Matlock Collegiate Invitational in dramatic fashion, firing a second-round five-under 67, and holding off a late charge by J.D. Guinney of Rollins College by just one stroke after the final putt. The junior led the Bobcats to the team title as well, also by just a single stroke. Young put up a 71-67-72=210 at six-under par on the 7,065-yard Lone Palm Golf Club course.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 1 for the first round of the Richard Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College.
