#3 Bobcat Golf Jumps to Sixth at Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. No. 3 Georgia College & State University golf stands sixth after round two Monday at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate, hosted by Valdosta State University.

Played at the par-72, 7,097-yard Kinderlou Forest golf course, the Bobcats shaved 10 strokes off a first-round 301 for a 592 tally and 16-over par in the 18-team field.

Senior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) led Georgia College for the second-straight round at an even-par 144 in fourth, two strokes off the lead. Junior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) got in the clubhouse seven strokes earlier than yesterday, one of two Bobcats under par today with a 71 and 149 total for 19th place.

Senior Francisco Bide (Buenos Aires, Argentina) did Shida one stroke better by cutting eight from yesterday’s effort (79-71=150) good for 24th. Junior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) came in next at 151, carding a 76 and 75 for 34th place. Freshman Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) added an 80 to a first-round 77, placing 67th with a 157.

Host VSU owns the team lead at an even-par 576, holding off No. 1 Barry University by 11 strokes. Georgia College’s 592 puts them one stroke out of fifth, and just five from second. Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Jacob Tilton and VSU’s Chesley Gunn share the individual medalist lead at a two-under 142.

The final round starts tomorrow, with Smith teeing off at 9:24 a.m. on hole one, paired with golfers from No. 6 Florida Southern College and No. 5 University of North Alabama.
