Bobcat Golf Pulls in #6 Ranking
NEW YORK – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently released its final Nike Golf/Golf World Division II Coaches Poll of the 2010 season, with Georgia College & State University and head coach Jimmy Wilson pulling in a No. 6 ranking.
The Bobcats dropped from second to sixth, finishing tops among the two Peach Belt Conference (PBC) programs in the top-25. Lander University was ranked tied at seventh.
Barry University took home top honors and all 12 of the first place votes. In second place was Florida Southern College, with Lynn University third. No. 4 Chico State University and No. 5 Nova Southeastern University rounded out the top-five. The South/Southeast Super Regional pulled in four of the top five slots, and seven of the top-10.
The 2009-10 season was another great one for the Bobcats, one featuring three tournament wins, including the 2010 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships. Senior Francisco Bide was chosen PBC Player of the Year, with Niclas Johansson, Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) and Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) also taking all-conference honors.
The GCSU Department of Athletics, winners of the 2008-09 PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
