#4 Bobcat Golf Stands Ninth at Division I Mizuno Intercollegiate

POOLER, Ga. – With senior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) just one stroke off the lead in a Division I field, the No. 4 Georgia College golf squad stands ninth after two rounds of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia Southern University.

Young fired a first-round 67, followed by a 70 in round two for seven-under at 137. He trails only Mark Joye of Wofford College.

The Bobcats shot an opening round 302, and got nearly 20 strokes better in the second round at 283 for a 585, good for nine over par. GC is holding off USC Upstate by just one stroke.

Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) and sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) are both slotted 47th at six-over par. Shida made some good adjustments, shaving eight strokes off an opening-round 79. Garrett showed similar improvement with a 78 and 72 on the par-72, 7,016-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club.

Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) stands 55th following an opening-round 81 with a sub-par 70 to land at seven-over par. Sophomore Bernardo Bide (Olavarria, Argentina) rounds out the Bobcat five at 16-over, carding rounds of 78 and 82.

Florida Gulf Coast University is the day one leader at 20-under par, a blistering 15 strokes ahead of Wofford. The only other Division II team in the field, Armstrong Atlantic is 12th at 13-over par. Joye owns the individual lead, while Young is tied with FGCU's Daniel Mazziotta in second.

The third and final round starts tomorrow morning.
