#9 Bobcat Golf One Stroke Back at Southeastern Collegiate, Garrett in Lead

VALDOSTA, Ga. – No. 9 Georgia College sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) owns the individual lead and the Bobcats are one stroke behind after two rounds of the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate Monday, hosted by Valdosta State University.

Garrett used an eagle on the par-five 11th hole and was at par or better for his final 12 holes in round one, posting a 70. He stayed at even par on round two, one bogey and one birdie balancing out. He is at two-under, tied with Columbus State University's Rourke Van der Spuy. The tournament is played at the par-72, 7,140-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) is second on the team and sixth overall, rebounding from an opening 74 with a second-round 70. Shida carded six birdies over the two rounds. Classmate Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) gives the Bobcats three in the top-20, as he stands 20th at three-over. Young had an up-and-down pair of rounds, featuring eight birdies and eight holes over par.

Senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) is 42nd, bettering his opening 77 with a 74 in round two. He's seven-over par. Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) is nine-over in 51st, having his best luck on the par-five 11th hole with a pair of birdies.

The Bobcats are eight over par, posting rounds of 295 and 289 for 584. The second round was tied for the best in the 14-team field. GC trails No. 10 Barry University by one stroke. No. 17 Florida Southern College is just one stroke behind the 'Cats in third. Five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools are in the field, with GC leading the way, with Armstrong Atlantic and No. 13 Columbus State University tied for fourth, and Lander University and Flagler College tied for 11th.

Garrett is tied with Van der Spuy at two-under, with three golfers just one stroke away.

The third and final round gets underway tomorrow, March 15 at 8:30 a.m.
