DELAND, Fla. – Posting a first-round 297, the No. 6 Georgia College golf team stands 10th Monday at the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional. The Bobcats are four strokes out of the crucial top-5 positioning, the slots that advance to the NCAA Finals.
Senior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) is tops of the team at one under par, good for eighth overall. The two-time All-American posted four birdies, three on the back nine at the par-72, 7,072-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club Course.
Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) and senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) are tied at 44th in three-over. The rookie All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection was even on the back nine, while Shida, the PBC Player of the Year, matched that performance.
No. 4 University of West Florida owns the team lead, the only team under par at minus-three. The Argos own a three-stroke advantage over No. 3 Lynn University. Lynn's Ricardo Gouveia and Belmont Abbey College's Peter Tarver Jones are tied for the individual lead at five-under par.
The Bobcats resume with round two of three tomorrow, May 3.
