#6 GC Golf Takes Sixth at NCAA SuperRegional
DELAND, Fla. – The No. 6 Georgia College golf team shot a 297 in the final round of the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional Wednesday, missing the cut for the NCAA Finals by just three strokes.
The Bobcats shot rounds of 297, 294 and 297 over the three days, finishing at plus-24 and tied with Florida Tech in sixth.
Senior Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) led the Bobcats for the final time, taking seventh at three-over par on the par-72, 7,072-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club course. Shida had rounds of 75 and 71, adding a 73 today. He fired birdies on nine and 13 in the final round.
Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) carded a 73 today to take 16th overall. He had rounds of 75 and 72 coming into today, and finished at four-over par. The rookie carded three birdies on the back nine today, including two on par-fours.
Senior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) posted rounds of 71, 75 and 77, taking 34th. His plus-seven score came from not having a single hole under par in the final two rounds.
No. 3 Lynn University won the SuperRegional Championship, posting a three-round plus-five. The Fighting Knights beat No. 5 Barry University by four strokes. Also advancing to the NCAA Finals round were No. 12 Barton College, No. 18 Newberry College and No. 15 Columbus State University. Individuals advancing to the Finals are Grant Goforth from Delta State University and Coker College's Jake Murphy.
Lynn's Ricardo Gouveia and Barton's Michael Marshburn shared the individual title, both at four-under par. Gouveia recorded rounds of 67-74-71 and Marshburn posted a 72-70-70. The duo beat the field by two strokes.
The tournament brings to a close another outstanding season for Bobcat Golf. GC put four individuals on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Teams, with head coach Jimmy Wilson taking Coach of the Year, and Shida adding Player of the Year honors.
