MARTINEZ, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) recently announced its Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, with No. 10 Georgia College taking two of the 10 spots on the squad.
Senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) joined sophomore Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) on the academic-minded team. Yonz has made three PBC All-Academic Teams in the three-year history of the program. Garrett makes his first appearance on this list.
Yonz owns the top GPA for a male student-athlete at Georgia College at 3.96 in chemistry. Garrett has a 3.64 in biology. Both were regular starters for the Bobcats this season. Yonz posted a 74.8 stroke average over nine events and Garrett was All-PBC with a 74.1 average in 12 starts.
The teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The PBC Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
The 2010-11 season was another outstanding one for Bobcat Golf. GC put four individuals on the All- PBC Teams, with head coach Jimmy Wilson taking Coach of the Year, and senior Billy Shida (2007-11) adding Player of the Year honors.
