MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University golf team and head coach Jimmy Wilson released its 2010 fall schedule Friday, featuring five highly-competitive tournaments over a six-week span.
The Bobcats will begin defense of their 2010 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship Sept. 6-7 at the Kiawah Island Invitational, hosted by USC Aiken. The Bobcats won this tournament in 2009, besting a 15-team field by seven strokes.
The next week, Georgia College travels to South Carolina again, for the Spring Hill Suites Intercollegiate Sept. 13-14. Taking place in Florence, S.C. the tournament is hosted by Francis Marion University. The Bobcats finished fifth a year ago while Georgia Southern University won the Division I-heavy meet.
After a week off, the ‘Cats head to Destin, Fla. Sept. 27-28 for a new tournament, the Sandestin Collegiate Championship, hosted by the University of West Florida.
Georgia College starts October with their first match in the Peach State, travelling to Columbus State University for the Aflac Invitational. The Bobcats were sixth last year, with Barry University taking top honors.
The fall slate wraps up in Georgia as well, at the Mizuno Savannah Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern. The Bobcats took sixth in 2009 at this Division I event, with East Carolina University taking the team title.
The 2010 PBC Champions, Georgia College golf is one of the more decorated programs in school history, having another outstanding season in 2009-10. The team picked up the conference title among three tournament wins, added four all-conference golfers and the PBC Golfer of the Year, as well as three GCAA All-American selections.
The GCSU Department of Athletics, back-to-back winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Georgia College prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the Bobcats' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
