KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – With All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) honoree Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) leading the way in 12th, the No. 14 Georgia College golf squad took sixth at the Kiawah Island Invitational Tuesday.
The Bobcats started the 2011-12 season with rounds of 296 and 308 to finish at plus-28 on the par-726,875-yard Cougar Point Golf Course.
Garrett was consistent with a pair of 74s for four-over par. Freshman Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) was a stroke back in 14th after rounds of 72 and 77.
Junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) shot an 81 today to go with yesterday's 73 for 10-over in 35th. Newcomer Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) shaved five strokes off with a 76 today, finishing 47th at 13 over, while freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) shot a 77 and 83 for plus-16 and 60th.
PBC foe Georgia Southwestern State University won the team title at plus-nine, bettering the field and host PBC school USC Aiken by three strokes. USCA's Taylor Welborn won the individual title at five-under par.
GC golf is back in action Monday, Sept. 12 at the SpringHill Suites Intercollegiate in Florence S.C., hosted by Francis Marion University.
