LAKELAND, Fla. – Powered by freshman David Sullivan's (Woodstock, Ga.) two-under 70 in the second round, the No. 16 Georgia College golf team sits eighth after two rounds at the Matlock Collegiate Classic, hosted by No. 25 Florida Southern College.
GC shot rounds of 295 and 293 to be 12 over par on the par-72, 7,065-yard Lone Palm Golf Club course. The Bobcats are tied with Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent Columbus State University and are 12 back off the pace.
Sullivan combined his 70 with a first-round 74 and is 11th at even par. Junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) owns the 14th slot, firing rounds of 72 and 73 for one-over.
Classmate Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) shot rounds of 75 and 73, good for 28th and a plus-four. Behind him is Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) in 49th at plus-seven after rounds of 74 and 77. Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) carded a pair of 80s and is 75th.
The team leaders are No. 2 Barry University and Florida Tech, as both teams are tied at even par as a team. The individual pace was set by Marcus Segerstrom of Barry at eight under, just one stroke ahead of FSC's Case Gard. Of the seven teams ahead of the Bobcats, four are in the nation's top-25.
The third and final round is underway tomorrow morning.
