#25 GC Golf Finishes 10th at Bobcat Intercollegiate

EATONTON, Ga. – Freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) battled some of the best golfers in the country to take 10th overall, leading the No. 25 Georgia College golf team to a similar finish at the 2012 Bobcat Intercollegiate, hosted at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.

Georgia College shot rounds of 288 and 279 yesterday, adding a 294 today for a total of 21-over par, just two strokes behind No. 18 Florida Southern College and just 10 out of the top five. No. 1 Barry University won the tournament title with rounds of 274, 280 and 279, a seven-under effort on the par-70, 6,847-yard course.

The Buccaneers dethroned the two-time reigning champions in Lynn University, the No. 2 Fighting Knights taking fourth this season. No. 4 Nova Southeastern University was second at plus-three, while No. 9 UNC Pembroke took third at six-over.

Trocchio led the Bobcats in 10th place, following a 71 with a 69 and 68 for two-under par. Classmate Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) was 37th, carding rounds of 72, 69 and 76.

Junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) fired a 72, 70, 76 tournament, good for 39th place. Classmate Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) shot rounds of 73 and 71 yesterday, adding a 76 today for 10-over par in 47th.

Rookie David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) was also at 10-over, but showed steady improvement with rounds of 75, 71 and 74, firing counting rounds in his last two.

The Bobcats put two individuals in the field as well, as sophomore Pontus Andersson (Helsingborg, Sweden) was 58th (74-79-70) and freshman Tyler Tucker (Cochran, Ga.) took 75th (78-70-81).

Lynn's Daniel Young took individual medalist honors with three sub-par rounds of 69, 65 and 68 for a total of minus-eight. UNC Pembroke's Jordan Walor was second, a stroke behind with 68-68-67. A total of 12 golfers finished under par for the tournament.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 26 at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Lander University.
