PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – With Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Freshman of the Year Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) leading the way, the No. 21 Georgia College golf squad is in third, five strokes behind the lead at the 2012 PBC Championship, hosted by Columbus State University.
GC carded rounds of 293 and 291 for a total of eight-over on the par-72, 7,057-yard Callaway Gardens - Mountain View Course.
Trocchio responded well to his first collegiate postseason action, posting a pair of 71s for two-under par in third place among the tournament's 55 golfers. His action was highlighted by a first round eagle on the par-five 11th hole.
Junior All-PBC First Teamer Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) also has a top-20 position, thanks to rounds of 76 and 72. He is 14th at four-over par. The No. 37 player in the country, Garrett also eagled 11 in his first round, adding five birdies in round two.
Freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) followed a 75 with a 75 for five-over par in 17th. He had success on the longer holes, putting up five birdies in the first round, four on par-four holes.
Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) shaved eight strokes off his first-round 81 and is 33rd overall at 10-over par. Monte's second round featured five holes under par, including all four of the par-five holes.
Junior All-PBC Second Team pick Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) is also 10-over, putting up rounds of 72 and 82. Smith was two-under on the back nine in round one.
No. 6 UNC Pembroke owns the team lead at three-over par with rounds of 288 and 291. No. 15 USC Aiken is second at six-over. The Bobcats are ahead of three top-30 teams in No. 19 Armstrong in sixth, No. 20 Georgia Southwestern State University in fourth and No. 30 Columbus State in fifth.
2011 Medalist Joel Dahlenburg of Flagler College leads the individual race, posting rounds of 73 and 67 for four-under par.
The Bobcats finish the tournament with a single round tomorrow. GC is in the last group to tee off, as Monte gets things started with golfers from USCA and UNCP at 10:40 a.m.
