#18 GC Golf Fourth after NCAA Finals Day One

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The No. 18 Georgia College golf team started strong at the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship Tuesday, carding a one-over 289 to tie for fourth place after the first round.

Played on the par-72, 7,092-yard Cardinal Club Golf Course, the Bobcats' one-over tied them with No. 7 Chico State for fourth place. The leader is No. 13 University of Central Oklahoma at nine-under, followed by No. 4 UNC Pembroke at three-under par. No. 9 Western Washington University is third at one-under.

All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) First Team selection Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) tied for the team lead with PBC Freshman of the Year and second team pick Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) at two-under par. Both men birdied the same par-five holes, picking up strokes at No. 9 and No. 17. The duo is fifth overall, five strokes off the pace set by Central Oklahoma's Josh Creel.

Third on the squad was All-PBC second teamer Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.). An even-par round put Smith 23rd overall, as he put up all three of his birdies in the front nine.

True freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) owns a five-over 77, good for 82nd. Sullivan carded birdies on the par-four Nos. 2 and 10.

Sophomore Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) was two strokes behind in 92nd. Monte started strong on each half with birdies on holes 1 and 10.

Round two of five tees off tomorrow, May 16 with the Bobcats taking to the links at noon. Sullivan gets things started for GC on hole No. 10, teamed with golfers from No. 34 University of Central Missouri and No. 3 CSU-Stanislaus.
