Bobcat Golfer to Play in US Amateur Public Links Championship this Week
CANTON, Ga. – Georgia College rising junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) has qualified for the United States Amateur Public Links Championship to be held this week.
Smith shot a 69 and 68 in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifier at Woodmont Golf & Country Club in Canton, Ga. June 7. His two-round 137 was good enough for the Woodmont tournament title at the 6,830-yard, par-72 course.
Smith had five starts in 2010-11 for the Bobcats, posting a 75.2 stroke average.
The 86th annual United States Amateur Public Links Championship will be held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., June 27-July 2. Entries were open to amateur golfers who, since Jan. 1, 2011, have been bona fide public course players and have not held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public, or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4. The U.S. Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
