MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College golf program and head coach Jimmy Wilson will put together a five-tournament spring schedule, not including a potential of three additional post-season events.
Action starts at the Matlock Invitational Feb. 13-14, in Lakeland, Fla. Hosted by Florida Southern College at the Lone Palm Course, the Bobcats took second at the event in 2011. From there, GC heads to the Pirate Invitational Feb. 27-28 in Savannah, Ga. The Bobcats get a break until the Southeastern Intercollegiate at Valdosta State University. The Bobcats will look to defend last year’s team title at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club March 19-20.
GC’s lone home tournament of the season comes next, as the Golf Club at Cuscowilla will once again host the Bobcat Intercollegiate. GC was fourth last season. Lander University’s Bearcat Invitational will give GC a trip to Greenwood, S.C., where they were third at this event a year ago.
The Peach Belt Championship will be held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., and hosted by Columbus State University. The two days of action come May 9-10, with GC looking to improve upon last year’s fourth-place finish.
The NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional is May 7-9, and will be held at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. The 2012 Spring Sports Festival plays host to the NCAA Championship in Louisville, Ky. May 15-19. The last time GC golf competed at an NCAA Spring Sports Festival was 2008, when the Bobcats took fourth, the best finish in school history.
