#8 Bobcat Golf Takes Fourth at Aflac/Cougar Invite
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Recording around 27 holes of golf Tuesday, the No. 8 Georgia College golf team took fourth place among 16 teams at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State University.
Played at the par-71, 6,515-yard Country Club of Columbus, the Bobcats finished 28-over par for the three rounds, edging Coker College by a pair to claim fourth. The Bobcats saved their best round for last, carding a 291 in round three.
Senior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) recorded his first top-10 finish of the season, taking seventh of the 90 golfers at three-over par. Smith shot rounds of 72, 71 and 73, posting three birdies in final-round action today.
Sophomore Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) leapt to 12th with solid rounds in his final two (75, 72, 72) to finish six-over. Trocchio was the lone Bobcat to card an eagle, holing out in three on the par-five No. 17 in the final round.
Senior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) picked up another top-20 finish at eight-over in 20th. Garrett sandwiched a solid 71 and 73 around a middle-round 77. He was at plus-one on the back nine in his final round.
No. 15 Florida Southern College took the team title at 11-over par, followed by host CSU four strokes behind. The individual medalist was CSU's Jesse Gibson at three-under, bettering the field by a single stroke.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Oct. 29 at the McDonough Cup in Orlando, Fla.
