Garrett Second as #16 GC Golf Finishes Ninth at McDonough Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior All-American Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) battled a tough field of 93 solid golfers, falling in a playoff Tuesday for individual medalist honors at the 2012 McDonough Cup, hosted by Rollins College. The No. 16 Georgia College golf team took ninth in the 18 team tourney.

Garrett fired a final round even par 72 today, added to yesterday's 74 and 72 start. He finished a pair over par, locked in a four-way tie for top honors. Lynn University's Daniel Young separated during the playoff to score the individual title.

Second on the squad today was junior Pontus Andersson (Helsingborg, Sweden) carding a 75. Getting his first start of the season, Andersson finished 54th after rounds of 82 and 76 yesterday, a plus-17 overall.

Sophomore Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) posted a 76 today, paired with rounds of 77 and 74 to take 27th at 11-over.

Senior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) and junior Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) both had rounds of 77 to close out. Smith tied Trocchio at plus-11 with a 76 and 74 yesterday, while Monte was 16-over with an 80 and 75.

GC golf was 38-over as a squad, carding a 307, 295 and 300 on the par-72, 7001-yard Rio Pinar Country Club Course.

Lynn won the team title as well at 13-over, besting No. 1 Nova Southeastern University by three strokes. GC was second among five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools in the tournament, falling behind only No. 7 Columbus State University by a single stroke.

The tournament ends the fall season for GC golf, as they get a break until Feb. 11-12 at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla.
